A walk is a story. It has a beginning, and an end, and a stretch of experiences—sometimes mundane, sometimes thrilling; sometimes stressful, sometimes restorative—that make up the middle. In the age of portable technology, it is very easy to avoid being where you are. This blog is my attempt to reconnect myself with the world around me by taking walks and paying enough attention along the way to write a story inspired by what I see. It is also my attempt to paradoxically use the virtual to reconnect others to the real. The stories are structured like guides, so if you would like, you can print them out and follow them through the parks or neighborhoods they describe. Since I am currently living in New York City, most of my stories will be set there. If you would like to suggest an itinerary for me to walk and write about, please e-mail me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
